Designing a Website That Builds Confidence: A Look at Read Brave

Some projects stay with you long after launch, and Read Brave is absolutely one of those.

When Carey Thomas came to me, she was launching a brand-new tutoring business focused on helping children with reading challenges, including dyslexia. This wasn’t just about building a website; it was about creating a space where families would feel safe, understood, and hopeful the moment they landed on the page.

From the very beginning, Carey was clear about what mattered most:
Helping students feel confident and comfortable.
Making families feel supported, not judged.
And ensuring everything felt warm, calm, and human, not clinical or overwhelming.

That clarity made this project such a joy to work on.

The Goal: More Than a “Pretty” Website

Carey’s goal wasn’t to have a flashy or complicated site. She wanted something intentionally simple… a website that:

  • Clearly explained what she does and how she helps
  • Reflected her expertise in structured literacy and the Science of Reading
  • Felt approachable to parents who may already be feeling anxious or overwhelmed
  • Encouraged families to reach out for a no-pressure introductory call

In other words, the website needed to build trust first.

Our Approach: Strategy, Empathy, and Clarity

This project blended brand design, copywriting, and SEO, but always through a human lens.

Branding & Visual Direction

We developed a visual identity that feels warm, optimistic, and grounded. Soft but confident colors, friendly typography, and imagery that reflects diversity and emotional safety were all intentional choices. Every element was chosen to say: You’re welcome here.

Website Copy

The words mattered just as much as the visuals. We focused on:

  • Using parent-friendly language (never jargon-heavy or intimidating)
  • Reframing assessments as gentle, relationship-based tools, not “tests”
  • Highlighting Carey’s credentials clearly, while still keeping the tone warm and reassuring

Carey later shared something that meant the world to hear:

“The website looks so amazing! I’m so impressed with the visuals, but especially with everything you wrote — it’s like you are a Science of Reading expert! I feel like you really got my desire to make students feel confident and comfortable across too, which I think is so important.”

That’s always the goal for me. To truly get the heart of someone’s work and translate it into words that feel natural and true.

SEO & Structure

Behind the scenes, we also made sure the site was search-friendly, structured clearly, and easy to grow with her business. The foundation is there to support visibility as Read Brave continues to evolve.

The Result: A Website That Feels Like Her

When the site launched, Carey shared:

“I am so excited that this has launched!! I feel very official now! You have been so awesome!”

That feeling of finally feeling “official,” confident, and ready is one of my favorite outcomes of this kind of work.

Read Brave now has a website that:

  • Reflects Carey’s expertise and her heart
  • Supports families from the very first click
  • Gives her a strong, trustworthy foundation to grow her practice

Why This Project Mattered to Me

As someone who works closely with service-based businesses and care-driven professionals, this project was a reminder of why thoughtful website design matters so much.

A website isn’t just a marketing tool.
For the right business, it’s an extension of how you care for people.

Carey is doing important work, and I’m so honored to have helped her bring Read Brave to life online.
